A throw of 73.12 metres secured third place, and repeat of his bronze from the 2014 Games in Glasgow, behind Australia’a Matthew Denny, as England’s Nick Miller took gold with a British and event record of 80.26.

And on the track, there was comfortable progress for England sprinters Asha Philip and Adam Gemili, as well as 400m runner Rabah Yousif.

Newham & Essex Beagles Philip won her heat in 11.31 seconds to secure a spot in the semi-finals, then won her next race in 11.21 to book a final spot.

Former UEL student Corinne Humphreys was second in her heat in 11.62, but then finished fifth in her semi-final in 11.66 and missed out on the final.
