Ummah Welfare Trust help aid mission in Syria

A dedicated team of runners from Newham-based Ummah Welfare Trust completed an inner-city half marathon to raise funds and awareness of the plight of Syrian orphans.

Emdad Rahman, Mohammed Imran and 13-year-old Shafi Rahman took to the streets of Barking to start the route which finished at Regents Park, taking in along the way, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Kings Cross, The British Museum and Madame Tussauds before finishing a stones throw from Lord’s at Hanover Gate in the shadows of Regents Park Mosque.

Imran said: “We have had a very good, uninterrupted run. In fact two of us didn’t realise we hadn’t drunk any water for the duration of the run!

“This will greatly boost the tremendous work Ummah Welfare Trust carries out with. I would like to say thank you to all our supporters.”

As part of the aid mission to the victims of this war, Ummah Welfare Trust has been on the ground, supporting orphans through sponsorship and grants, alongside other projects.

The team have so far raised over £1,000. For more information see uwt.org.
