Somerset athlete Ben Tickner overcame the biggest field in the recent history of the Victoria Park Open Five to scoop the £200 top prize

Somerset athlete Ben Tickner overcame the biggest field in the recent history of the Victoria Park Open Five to cross the line first and scoop the £200 top prize on Saturday.

Tickner, the brother of international cross-country star Frank Tickner, finished ahead of a 400-strong field in a time of 24min 12sec, as the Wells City Harriers runner edged out Mike Penman Memorial champion Florian Neuschwander, who came second in 24min 43sec.

Paul Martelletti (above) was the first home runner to cross the line in 24min 54sec, while Highgate Harriers runner Svenja Abel won the women's event in 29min 01sec ahead of former elite triathlete Loretta Sollars.

Highgate Harriers won the men's team trophy and Serpentine Running Club took the women's title, while Orion Harriers dominated the youth races, taking all the silverware in every category.

Orion pair George Hoy and Georgina Tuckfield won the 11-17 category races for boys and girls respectively.
