Young swimmers bag 27 medals

Bethnal Green swimmers took home 27 medals from the London Borough of Redbridge Swimming Club’s early county and regional qualifying level three meeting recently.

Among the 12-strong team nine-year-old Kaia Cudmore won four gold medals in her age range – 200metres breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly.

Club-mate Christopher Houlihan also excelled, as the 11-year-old won gold medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke and silver in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle races.

Kai Ogden, 9, won silver medals in the 100m IM and 200m backstroke, while Matthew Houlihan won bronze in the 100m IM.

A year out of age, 12-year-old Rusha Mondal won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and 18-year-old Keiran George-Connelly won bronze medals in the 100m butterfly and freestyle.

There were 34 personal best times also recorded at the meeting, with Lucas Boardman, Amy Kavanagh, Nahshon Bryan, Leonardo Revrenna and Melissa Eloidin among those to excel.

? The following day, at York Hall Leisure Centre, the young sharks came second to Hornchurch SC in a close-fought East London Mini Gala with only four points separating the two teams.

The club’s winners were: Charley Swire (backstroke), Kalina Sikorski (breaststroke), Iris Ramsay (freestyle), Jared Duggan (butterfly), Eve Davey-MacLaren (butterfly), Hal Crampin (freestyle), Jack Byrne, Zac El Jaidi, Jared Duggan, Foinn Bennett (freestyle relay), Macy McLaren, Kalina Sikorska, Davey-MacLaren, Tara Lewis (freestyle relay).
