Heavyweight Daniel Dubois is eight wins along a victory trail that could lead to a world title duel against Anthony Joshua and the Peacock gym based puncher aims to continue the success streak in Leicester on Saturday.
The 21-year-old former Repton amateur has blitzed eight stoppage wins in a total of just 17 rounds and faces American veteran rival Kevin Johnson on the big Frank Warren promotion this weekend.
Saturday’s show, screened on BT Sport, includes a key clash for another east London power puncher as super lightweight Ohara Davies aims to end the unbeaten march of northern rival Jack Catterall.
‘Kingpin’ Johnson has faced most of the leading heavyweights around, including suffering a two-round defeat against Joshua in 2015, but surviving the full distance against Tyson Fury, Dereck Chisora and even Vitali Klitschko in a world title bid.
“You have to respect his credentials. He has met some top men in his long career and will be a real test, but I am confident in my ability,” said Dubois, who is trained by Peacock gym boss Martin Bowers.
“I have the right team behind me and they will guide me to the top.
Davies, meanwhile, aims for the best win of a career which has seen him suffer just one loss in 19 bouts when he faces Chorley rival Catterall, who boasts 22 straight victories.
Davies has been working under new trainer Miguel Dapenticul alongside Barry Smith at the West Ham gym where he moved following his switch to Warren from the Matchroom group.
He has dropped his usual trash talk from his pre-fight routine, but insists he will upset the odds that make WBO inter-continental champion Catterall a slight favourite.
“I will dispose of him and move on to world level,” said Davies, who knows a second loss following his defeat against Josh Taylor a year ago should mean goodbye to those dreams of global glory.
Both Dubois and Davies will hope to further their careers with fine wins at the Leicester Arena on a busy show organised by Warren this weekend.
York Hall promoter Mickey Helliet has lined up a packed 20-bout bill for Saturday which includes Phillip Bowes, Andre Ozgul, Andre Sterling, Rod Douglas Jr. and Daniel Khan.
