Head coach Adam Spelling hailed James Fernley and club-mate Maisie Callaghan as 'a real credit to the East End'

Lansbury Amateur Boxing Club’s James Fernley won his National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs (NABGC) National Championship final at the weekend to cap a fantastic year for the youngster.

The local boxer is now a national champion and the number one in his age level in the country.

Fernley was up against Moss Side Fire Station’s Kai Hardinker and boxed brilliantly to claim the win in Bridlington, Yorkshire.

Lansbury’s head coach Adam Spelling praised the fighter, he said: “James has done brilliantly.

“In these championships he has boxed four times overall and all against top quality opposition.

“He is now the number one kid in the country and will probably represent England some time soon.”

Fernley’s Lansbury club-mate Maisie Callaghan was also in action last weekend, but she lost a close final.

Spelling added: “Maisie has only been boxing a year and did tremendously.

“Both of these kids are born and bred East Enders from Poplar and they are a real credit to the East End.”
