Stepney club boxer targets championship glory
Ray Miah took a national title in Broad Street colours in 2014 and he made it clear he is aiming for more honours this year after his win at the Troxy in Stepney on Friday night.
Miah defeated South Norwood’s Brandon Birch on the Broad Street show and admitted: “It was good to get that win, now I will be going for championships in the next few months.”
The Stepney club boxer kept up the pressure on a good opponent, switching attacks to the head and body to make sure of the unanimous verdict.
Also winning in Broad Street colours against South London opposition was Tommy Green, who took the official decision against Pop Khan (Fitzroy Lodge).
However another home club senior, Caine Hart, finished second best after some hard-fought exchanges against Lodge’s Brian Bertola.
Broad Steet boxers and East London rivals Peacock BC provided some late night action for the fans, including a slam bang super-heavyweight duel between the two clubs.
The Canning Town club’s 17-stone giant Ivo Adiefe came out on top against Street’s Mayowa Olusanya, clinching a unanimous verdict after the pair swapped powerful blows.
Shaj Imran (Peacock) was another visiting winner on the show when he took the points verdict against home club rival Michael Oakuwanu.
However the result between the east London rivals was reversed with a win for Broad Street’s Adam Bylina over Matt Butler (Peacock).
Plucky Broad Street girl Natalie Gyte battled all the way against Charlie Hann (Medway), but a majority vote went to the Kent club boxer.
Broad Street’s popular RJ Douglas fought fiercely but was narrowly outpointed by Lynn’s talented Taofeek Maja on a majority vote.
Other Broad Street results: Fahad Opu lost pts Isiah Sampson (South Norwood); Callum Davidson lost pts Dan Rooney (Eltham); Harry Bell lost pts Ben Main (Milton Keynes); Adeel Zain lost pts Callum Howell (Eltham); Jordan Weatherman won pts Paul Sandhu (Balham); Patrick Mulkern lostp ts Martin Warren (Oakmead); Aaron James lost to Amin Hassan (Earslfield).
n James Fearnley completed a double success for Lansbury boxers on the Waltham Forest show on Saturday when he outpointed Ryan McDonagh from White Hart Lane BC.
Also in winning form for the Poplar club at the tournament was Shay Wilson, who came through with a good win against Repton rival Joe Burns.
n Unbeaten East Londoners Robin Dupre and Jose Lopes are back in action at York Hall in the coming weeks and looking to press their title ambitions.
Dupre is unbeaten in 11 bouts and launches the action in an eight-round outing against Greek rival Dimitrios Neroutsos on the Mick Helliet-Mark Prior promotion on Saturday.
With his 30th birthday just three days after the fight, Dupre is anxious to break into the title bracket this year and knows he must maintain his winning form.
Meanwhile, Stratford cruiserweight Lopes is booked for a March 11 show staged by Goodwin Promotions matchmaker Kevin Campion.
Lopes, a 26-year-old with seven straight wins to his credit, meets Willesden rival Ossie Jervier and looks for another victory to press his title claims.
A week later on March 18, Wadi Camacho faces Karl Wheeler for the vacant Southern Area cruiserweight title and the winner looks an obvious target for Dupre and Lopes.
Dupre is featured on a packed programme at York Hall on Saturday headed by the Southern Area welterweight title duel between Asinia Byfield and John Brennan.
Unbeaten prospects Joshua Ejakpovi, Jimmy Smith and Kian Thomas are also named on a show that includes former world title challenger George Jupp.
