Cottons Park club won 17-10 at Canvey Island last weekend

Danny McEvoy wants Campion to avoid making another slow start against East London in London Three Essex on Saturday.

The Cottons Park club welcome their fellow high-flyers on Saturday, having lost the previous meeting between the sides in September 36-29.

Campion, though, will be confident of getting the better of East London this weekend in a clash that sees third welcome fourth.

It has been a remarkable start to the term for the Cottons Park side, who battled relegation last season.

And backs coach McEvoy knows a win over East London on Saturday would be the perfect way to mark an eventful 2018.

“It would nice to go into the break over Christmas with a win and it would be the icing on the cake to a brilliant start to the season for us,” he said.

“We won’t be broken if we lose, but it would definitely be nice to end the year on a high.

“It’s a hard game for us, even if we are at home and East London will be looking to make the most of their strengths in the pack and on the wings.

“We were caught out against them earlier in the season when we started slow and we don’t want a repeat of that this weekend.”

Campion entertain East London having beaten Canvey Island 17-10 away from home last weekend.

All three of the Cottons Park club’s tries were scored by back-three players, with fullback Josh Lamont and wings Mike Underwood and Joe Fennessey crossing.

McEvoy is pleased the trio are doing their job of scoring the tries for Campion, but revealed their recent scores have been a real team effort.

“The back three are finishing off the moves that start with good work by the forwards,” he added.

“What we’re seeing is the pack are able to get us in good positions and we now have confident players capable of finish chances off.

“That has helped us get good results this season, but this has been something that has been years in the making.”

McEvoy will hope his back three players can get among the tries this weekend as Campion look to end the calendar year with a win over East London.
