England’s Dina Asher-Smith won bronze in the 200m at the Commonwealth Games in Australia, with former UEL student Bianca Williams in seventh place.

Asher-Smith clocked 22.29secs to finish behind Shaunae Miller-Uibo (22.09), of the Bahamas, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson (22.18).

Williams, meanwhile, stopped the clock at 23.06 and declared herself happy with her efforts on the Gold Coast.

“I gave it my best. It was a good run, it was fun and I enjoyed it,” she said.

“I’ve learned from it. It was my third major final in four years and a I ran a season’s best, so I can’t complain.

“I’m very happy. I’m learning to love the sport and running again. There are still things to work on but I’m getting there race by race.

“I’m proud of myself, with my coaches, but I’ve got a long way to go. It’s getting there. We’ve still got the Europeans ahead of us, I’m in decent shape now and I will be come August.”

Woodford Green’s Tiffany Porter booked her place in the final of the 100m hurdles on Saturday after finishing third in her heat in 12.99secs.

But Thames Valley Harriers Lorraine Ugen was pipped to a bronze medal in the long jump, finishing fourth with a best leap of 6.69m as England team-mate Shara Proctor took third with 6.75m, as only 15cm separated the top four.
