Barking & Dagenham College picked up their first win of the season over an in-form Waltham Forest side and NewVic College eased to another win in week four of the Essex Cricket FE Chance to Shine indoor tournament.

Waltham Forest won the toss in the first match against Barking, but Bhajandip Singh put their openers to the sword, bowling Imran Ahmad for six runs and trapping Faizan Baig for four.

Sadiq Kamal steadied the ship for Waltham Forest, scorching 18 runs off nine deliveries with two fours and a maximum, but his partners came and went.

Rizwan Khan was run out by Gurpreet Singh for seven runs, with fall of wicket 50-3 in the fifth over. Gurpreet Singh struck again two deliveries later, dismissing Aqib Chaudhary for duck as he was caught by Kasim Hussain.

Hanif Rabbi timed out and then Kamal fell as Waltham Forest collapsed to 50 all out after 4.5 overs.

Barking had a tough start to the chase as Rahul Kainth was caught by Ahmad off the bowling of Kamal to depart for duck.

But new man Hussain built up a stellar partnership with opener Bhajandip Singh to edge Barking near the line.

Hussain scored steady runs before he was dismissed, while at the other end, Singh smashed 24 runs not out from 13 deliveries with three boundaries and a six.

Saad Rashid came in after Hussain’s dismissal, but only needed to score one run as Barking and Dagenham sped over the line with 4.3 overs in hand for a four-wicket win.

In the second match, Havering Sixth Form were put in to bat by NewVic College. Openers Kudiwa Kamudyariwa and Harry Gilhan each departed for three and Jack Payne was run out for eight by Kalim Khan as Havering started poorly at 23-3 in the fourth over.

But Louis Pickering and Oliver White changed the innings for their side. Pickering scored 26 runs from 14 balls before he was bowled by Sagar Joshi, whilst White notched 25 runs.

But White was run out by Khan and Sam Childs was caught and bowled by Joshi for three to end the innings at 78 all out after nine overs.

NewVic also got off to a poor start as Joshi was caught by Payne off the bowling of Pickering for seven runs. Pickering struck again next ball as he bowled Azhar Uddin for six runs.

But Abdullah Khan rescued the run chase for NewVic, scoring 21 not out. While he stuck in at one end, his partners slowly pieced together enough to get NewVic ever closer to victory.

Arsalan Khan added a cameo of eight, Manav Patel was run out for four runs and then Kalim Khan was not out for seven at the end as he and Abdullah Khan drove NewVic over the line in the ninth over with two wickets in hand.

Pickering starred for Havering in the losing effort, taking two for 15 runs in three overs of work.
