Norlington College pulled of a stunning last-ball victory over Leyton Sixth Form on Wednesday in week 11 of the Essex Cricket Board’s FE ‘Chance to Shine’ indoor cricket tournament at the University of East London’s SportsDock.

It was a day for the batsmen as Leyton got off to a flyer after being put in to bat. Fareed Hussain struck 25 runs off 15 deliveries and then retired, while his opening partner Umer Farooq made his way to a quick 14 runs before he was run out by Sumeet Nandra.

Bilal Imran and Thamarai Veerappan continued the good work for Leyton. Veerappan smashed three boundaries on his way to 20 off 10 balls and Imran added a slower 21 runs to get Leyton up to 104-3 after their 10 overs.

Facing a daunting run chase, Norlington did not get off to the brightest of starts. Ishaq Muhammad hit a four and then was promptly bowled by Usman Majid.

Jamal Richards and Tallal Ahmed steadied the chase, putting on 34 runs before Ahmed was run out for 13 by Bilal Imran.

Richard departed two deliveries later, but although three wickets down as they neared the halfway stage, Norlington were still in a good position thanks to some loose bowling from Leyton, who were starting to pile on the extras.

Imran got another wicket as Ibadullah Lughmani was caught off his bowling for just two runs, and his replacement Osaid Waheed went for a three-ball duck.

But extras continued to flow and Sumeet Nandra put the bowling to the sword, scorching 37 runs from just 17 balls with three boundaries, to put Norlington over the line on the last delivery with just one wicket to spare.
