London Raiders captain Tom Davis joined a select group of players as he reached the 200-point mark for the club at the weekend.

A third-period goal on the Isle of Wight on Saturday proved only a consolation on the night, but had greater significance for Davis, who became only the 23rd player in the 200 club.

He said: “To get my 200th point for the Raiders at the weekend meant a lot to me.

“Raiders has been a big part of me for seven seasons now so to hit a milestone like 200 points is a big achievement.”

Raiders fell to a 9-3 defeat against their namesakes, after seeing goalie Michael Gray and Matt France ejected along with Wight’s Ben Paynter and Corey Watkins following a melee towards the end of the second period.

The home side were 4-2 ahead at the time and showed little mercy to 16-year-old back-up goalie Harry Buckingham in the final session.

But Davis paid tribute to his team-mates, adding: “I thought the Isle of Wight game didn’t really reflect the score. It was a close hard-fought game until the line brawl happened.

“To be honest I was proud of my team in how they reacted and stuck up for each other.

“Going into the third was never going to be easy with the penalties we got, which saw Harry get some ice time in goal and doing himself proud after losing a forward and a D-man.”

There was better news back on their own ice the following evening as Raiders raced into a 3-0 lead against Bracknell inside six minutes.

Davis claimed an assist on Marek Nahlik’s goal after just 23 seconds to move to 201 career points as his side went on to secure a 4-2 win to open their account for the campaign, despite losing Nahlik to a shoulder injury.

“Going into Sunday was huge for us as we were still looking for our first win of the season,” added Davis.

“We started the game fast and hard and it paid off in the first 10 minutes. Once Nahlik took an injury the tempo seemed to drop off and against a top team we would have been punished.

“But we did enough to get the points, which I was happy about.”

Davis could certainly climb a lot higher up the club’s all-time scoring list over the coming months.

Were he to match his efforts of last season, when he averaged a point per game, he could arguably move into the top 15 as Canadian forward Rob Douglas currently occupies 15th place with 236 points.
