A triple-double from in-form Cory Dixon saw London Lions to a comfortable 94-62 BBL win at Leeds Force on Sunday.

But despite his 21 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists, Dixon was not the top scorer for Lions, as Brandon Peel’s 23-point haul led the way as they extended their unbeaten run to four matches under coach Vince Macaulay.

Dixon had scored 25 points in the BBL Trophy game in Loughborough on Friday and the Lions came out strongly to build a 13-point lead within the first three minutes in Yorkshire.

Leeds didn’t manage to get a single shot to sink during that time, but eventually found the target as the two sides began trading baskets.

However, a reliance on unreliable shooting from behind the arc meant Leeds could never really eat into the Lions lead or bring it down below double digits.

Lions started playing with Leeds, including Andre Lockhart with a beautiful steal off an inbound pass, narrowly missing the basket but getting fouled in the process.

The visitors went into the first break 29-17 ahead, despite a last-second Leeds lay-up, and the second quarter was more of the same, with the shell-shocked hosts trying to do anything to stem the bleeding.

It was to no avail as Momcilo Latinovic drove to the basket, showing unstoppable force, and Leeds were left with nothing to do but foul and send him to the charity stripe for an additional point.

Latinovic was back at it 30 seconds later, following a three-point shot with a steal off the inbound and another easy lay-up to take the lead to 43-21 with nearly 25 minutes still remaining.

Lions were 55-37 up at half time and came out swinging after the restart, as they clinically and methodically piled on another 21 points to just 11 from Leeds.

The fourth quarter always risked being a dull affair by comparison, but the Lions showed no sense of easing back as their lead moved past 30 points.

A smart Dixon-Lockhart 1-2 play gave the Lions an 88-55 lead with just three minutes left in the game and as the final buzzer went, Leeds looked relieved that the onslaught was finally over.

Having secured two wins from two attempts at the weekend, the improving Lions are next in BBL action on Saturday (January 27) with a trip to Bristol, when the tip off is at 7.30pm.
