Academy return with 27 medals to their name

Veras Academy members achieved magnificent results at the UK Open Karate Championships on Sunday.

Eighteen members travelled to Dudley and won 27 medals to finish first out of 20 associations who medalled at the event.

Head instructor Sensei Raphael was proud of his team, he said: “A few were new to this type of environment and did really well representing the association.”

Out of the 27 medals Veras Academy achieved 11 were gold, six silver and 10 bronze.

Ten-year-old Lulu Brown shined winning two golds, whilst senior Jasmine Pomeroy picked up two golds as well as a silver.

Seyhan Cinar, 11, also picked up a gold medal alongside silver and 10-year-old Luan Veras picked up a solitary gold.

Harunur Rashid, 13, won gold and bronze and Patricia Veras picked up gold in the veterans category.

Nine-year-old Liam Veras returned to London with three medals, two silvers and a bronze.

Donna Blake won silver in a junior and senior event before taking bronze in a separate senior competition to show her pedigree.

Veteran Mette McLarney won bronze, whilst seven-year-old Lucas Veras achieved a bronze.

Anarin Jindal, 8, won bronze as well and seven-year-old Isaac Gibson picked up two bronze medals and although Dylan Gibson, five, performed strongly he was unlucky not to get a medal.

Liam Veras, Luca Veras and Jack Gentili came together for a team event and earned gold for Veras Academy Team A.

Team B consisted of Daniel Gardner, Jindal and Ishmail Cinar and they finished with a bronze.

Liam Veras and Luca Veras teamed up in another event, alongside Gardner, and again won gold.

Whilst Gentili, Jindal and Nathan teamed up for a bronze before Luan Veras, Liam Veras and Seyhan Cinar achieved gold and Luan Veras and Seyhan Cinar also won silver alongside Leo Hume.
