Leyton Sixth Form College, George Monoux College and NewVic College all picked up a victory each, as they competed in the Essex CCB/UEL Indoor League at UEL’s SportsDock.

Leyton Sixth Form were comprehensive winners over Tower Hamlets, who posted a measly 49 all out and used only half of the 10 overs available to them.

Sohaib Kayani (2-15) and namesake Yasir Kayani (1-26) took three wickets between them and Leyton Sixth Form had no trouble when they were asked to chase down the score.

They reached the total without losing a wicket and still had a further 35 balls to spare.

The next fixture between George Monoux and Tower Hamlets was a tighter affair.

Tower Hamlets were dismissed with three balls of their allotment left, although they did manage to post a competitive 109.

Nasir Uddin (23), Tarek Ahmed (18), Muhammad Shahalom (16) and R Islam (15) all contributed with the bat.

Meanwhile, all of George Monoux’s wickets came through excellent work in the field.

In response, Khalil Khan (31) and Owais Abdul-Rehman (30) retired, as their team clinched an exciting last-ball victory.

In the other match played, NewVic got off to an excellent start against Leyton Sixth Form.

Captain R Islam (41) and fellow opener Muhammad Ahsan (25) both retired witash their side reached 115 in their 10 overs.

Leyton’s reply also began well, as skipper Ahsan Tanveer (21) and Hassan Ali (23) contributed early runs.

Yasir Kayani (34) played an important role in the innings but Leyton Sixth Form were dismissed 24 runs short of their target at the end of the eighth over.

Habib Kaffurudeen (1-30) was the pick of the bowlers for NewVic College.
