Tower Hamlets manager reflects on first month in charge and pre-season so far

Tower Hamlets manager Ade Abayomi is pleased to have been given the chance to take over the first team after enjoying success in a similar role with the reserves.

He was appointed on June 18 after guiding the reserves to glory in May by winning the Essex Senior League Reserve Shield.

Abayomi is now hoping to use his experience to develop the young players Tower Hamlets have in their squad ahead of the Essex Senior League season, which starts on August 8.

“It was an opportunity that I wanted and I am delighted to take over as manager,” said Abayomi.

“We have a lot of youth in the team that we are trying to develop and we are looking forward to the new season.

“We have been spending a lot of time with the youngster in training and getting them ready. Most of them played a couple of times for the first team last season, but this is a new experience still so we are seeing how they cope.”

Pre-season has been successful thus far for Tower Hamlets with two wins from two.

They defeated Fisher 2-1 at Coldharbour Leisure Centre, with Edison Teberen bagging a brace against the South Counties East League outfit.

And Abayomi watched his side triumph again on Saturday when they travelled to Kent County League team Dulwich Village.

The hosts took the lead, but a trialist equalised and O’Neal Rowe found the net with 15 minutes left to earn another 2-1 win.

Tower Hamlets face a Bishop’s Stortford XI tonight (Thursday) on Stepney’s 3G before another tough match with Ryman North side Redbridge at the same venue on Monday (July 23).

“Bishop’s Stortford should be very interesting,” said Abayomi. “They are a good side and that will be the hardest game we have played so far. I am looking forward to facing Redbridge too.

“Hopefully we will know more about where we are after those two matches.”
