Sporting Bengal United’s four-match winning streak came to an end last night (Wednesday) as Essex Senior League leaders Bowers & Pitsea defeated them 2-1 at the Mile End Stadium.

Anwar Uddin’s men were full of confidence going into the clash, but it was the visitors that took the lead after 12 minutes when Luke Wilson headed in after the hosts failed to deal with a long throw.

That was how it remained at half time, but Bengal came out after the break determined to get back on level terms and they did with 20 minutes to go.

Former Maldon & Tiptree man Tunde Adewunmi continued his rich rein of form by firing past the Bowers goalkeeper from range to make it 1-1.

Both sides pushed for a winner afterwards, but it was Rob Small’s away team that picked up all three points when Chris Bryan found the net with four minutes left.

A tough defeat for Uddin’s side to take, but they are making great strides and sit eighth in the table with 15 points from their opening nine matches.

Newham halted their eight-game losing streak in all competitions by drawing with Wadham Lodge last night at Chadfields.

Shamrez Darr and Kevin Lucas’ men hadn’t registered a point since being held by Sawbridgeworth Town on August 22.

The visitors should have taken the lead in the 19th minute, but failed to take that opportunity and Newham punished them.

Aaron Harriott fired the hosts ahead and that was how it remained until half time.

Lodge looked for a response after the break and eventually got it when Nathan Mukuna levelled the scores with around 15 minutes remaining.

That was how it finished too and leaves Newham with six points from their opening nine league matches this season.
