Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy: Sporting Bengal 4 Saffron Walden Town 1

Sporting Bengal United made it 11 games unbeaten as they sealed their progress into the second round of the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy with a 4-1 win against Saffron Walden Town.

Imrul Gazi’s had to battle back from 1-0 down but a brace from Steven Carvell and goals from Jason Ngandu and Yasir Rashid sealed the win to keep their run in form alive.

Bengal found themselves 1-0 down thanks to an own goal in the 17th minute but Rashid levelled the score in the 56th minute.

Ngandu helped his side take the lead as he hounded down the Bloods goalkeeper, nicked the ball, and fired into the net.

Carvell then netted twice to seal the 4-1 and continue his rich vein of form in recent weeks.

It was also a special occasion for Zatash Ali who made his 100th appearance for Sporting Bengal.

Manager Gazi tweeted: “Not to be taken lightly! So proud of Zatash Ali, 100 Sporting Bengal appearances is some going.

“And to top it off with a brilliant 4-1 win.

“At a time when players are free agents every other week this guy has shown me nothing but loyalty.”
