Once again Bethnal Green United failed to take advantage of league leaders Burnham Ramblers dropping points, after the East End club could only draw with London APSA

Once again Bethnal Green United failed to take advantage of league leaders Burnham Ramblers dropping points, after the East End club could only draw with London APSA.

Ramblers lost 2-1 at home to Stansted while at the Terence McMillan Stadium, Alfred Kamara cancelled out an earlier strike from APSA defender Burgess.

"A draw, a fair result? Was it heck," declared Greens boss Justin Gardner.

"They (APSA) defended for their lives and when the final whistle blew they were over the moon."

The dropped points from United were made worse when they felt they had won the game with 10 minutes left, only for the linesman to raise his flag for offside.

"Anton Stephenson scored a great goal. The referee pointed back to the centre circle and we all celebrated and I don't know why, but the assistant put his flag up," Gardner moaned.

"It was really confusing and especially for that to happen with 10 minutes left was upsetting.

"I think the linesman knew he had made a mistake because a few minutes later Anton was set free and turned back because he thought he was about 10 yards offside, but the linesman kept his flag down.

"He managed to get his shot away, but it went wide."

In the 65th minute, APSA took the lead after a shot rebounded off of the post and Burgess was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.

Undeterred by going behind, United levelled 10 minutes later when a Kadir Jama free kick deflected off Kamara's back and into the net.

Try as they might Green pressed and although Stephenson had a couple of chances to win the game for United, it was not to be and they left Newham with a point.

"It was a frustrating afternoon and we should have won the game," Gardner said.
