The Mile End Stadium club want to take some momentum into the New Year by securing another home success this weekend

Tower Hamlets thrashed Woodford Town 6-1 back on September 19, but joint-boss Ade Abayomi expects a much tougher test this Saturday.

The two clubs do battle in the Essex Senior League again looking to finish 2017 on a high before a two-week break over the festive period.

Hamlets were set to host Basildon United last Saturday, but the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Mile End Stadium.

Abayomi expects it to be playable for this weekend and he’s ready to face Woodford again, he said: “Any time you beat a team 6-1 you have to be prepared for what is to come next time.

“We know they will be looking for some payback and they will want to get more points on the board so they can move up the table.

“For us, we want to finish the year on a high, so we have to be concentrated, but we know it is going to be an interesting game.”

When Hamlets thrashed Saturday’s opponents earlier in the season, Town were struggling, but they’ve since improved and sit 12th.

The last month has been tough for the new boys of the division though and Abayomi and Ajay Ashanike’s men will look to complete a double over them this weekend.

“Woodford have had a good season. They started slowly, but have recovered well and are in a strong position now,” said Hamlets joint-manager.

“They, like every other team in the division, can beat anyone on their day and we just need to make sure we have the right attitude.

“If we don’t turn up, they will beat us, but we want to finish the year with a win or a good result and we are very confident of doing that.”

Hamlets have enjoyed an excellent first half of the campaign and sit eighth with 36 points from their 21 games.

It is an encouraging return and sets the Mile End club up for a successful 2018, although they are desperate to achieve one final victory of the year.

“We want a win to finish off a strong 2017 and give us confidence going into the New Year by beating Woodford this weekend,” said Abayomi.

“It has been a good season so far and hopefully we can get another strong result and go into the two-week break really happy.”
