Former Barkingside favourite Steve Carvell struck on his debut for the Mile End Stadium club after leaving Phoenix Sports recently
Imrul Gazi was delighted to see Sporting Bengal United get back to winning ways in the Essex Senior League last weekend by beating Enfield 4-0.
A brace from Codey Cameron and strikes by Steve Carvell and Oscar Almeida Mendes gave them all three points.
It was a comprhensive victory for the Mile End Stadium club and ended their run of six games without a win.
“Our biggest problem has been putting the ball in the back of the net and even on Saturday we missed a lot of chances,” said Gazi.
“Thankfully we did score four times, but it could have been more and everybody knows exactly how we play.
“We create loads of opportunities and normally more than the opposition, but we just don’t take them.
“But I was really pleased we got the result on Saturday and there were so many positives to take.
“The new signings made a difference and it is just about trying to do it on a consistent basis now.”
Carvell made his Bengal debut having been with Phoenix Sports, of the Ryman North, earlier in the campaign.
The talented attacker has previously played for Barkingside and Thurrock, but is now turning out for the Mile End outfit.
Gazi praised Carvell’s quality and explained just how his move to the club occurred, adding: “Steve played for us in the number 10 position.
“It was so good to have a player of his calibre in the team and when the ball went up to him, he held onto it and slowed the game down.
“That eases the pressure on our back four and we are fortunate to have him. He’s been playing in the Bangladesh Football Association UK Summer League for the last two seasons.
“He plays for Bromley by Bow and I have known him for a while and been trying to get him over to Sporting Bengal for a long time.
“It suits both of us because he is looking to get his fitness up and it is a great coup for oursevlves because he has played in the Ryman for a long time and is a quality player.”
