Sporting Bengal United end long wait for success

Tower Hamlets had a week to forget in the Essex Senior League after losing both of their matches.

Hopes were high ahead of Saturday’s clash with Eton Manor and Ade Abayomi’s side hadn’t played since February 1 so would have been fresh for the encounter.

It showed as Mouhamed Ndao scored after seven minutes before Olawale Ogunoile doubled their advantage in the 18th minute.

Sam Baffour struck nine minutes before half time to put the visitors three goals ahead and seemingly on their way to a victory.

But Manor reduced the arrears twice before the 60th minute and levelled with quarter of an hour remaining.

And in stoppage time, the hosts made it 4-3 to leave the young Hamlets stunned.

Abayomi and his team were given the chance to bounce back on Monday night, however, when they hosted Bowers & Pitsea.

The visitors scored after just three minutes, though, before making it 2-0 early in the second half. Mane Cheikh-Sadibou did pull one back late on, but the home side lost 2-1 and are 15th in the table.

Hamlets entertain Burnham Ramblers this weekend and will look to get back to winning ways.

Sporting Bengal United had a much better week and ended their long wait for a victory in the division last night (Wednesday).

Anwar Uddin’s team defeated Waltham Forest at the Mile End Stadium with Maamoon Khan, Abdisamad Mohamed and Terlochan Singh on target in the 3-1 triumph.

It was their first win in the league since December 5, a run of 11-matches without tasting success.

Bengal have picked up four points this week after Singh scored an outstanding volley in the 84th minute at Mile End to earn a point against Takeley on Saturday.

“Frustrated with our 13th league draw, on the plus side individuals at Sporting Bengal are improving and Terlochan scored a banger,” said manager Anwar Uddin.

He will be much happy now, though, and they travel to take on Barking this weekend before visiting Stansted next Tuesday.
