Essex Senior League: Ilford 2 Tower Hamlets 0

Ilford got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win against east London rivals Tower Hamlets.

Two first-half goals from Lion Docaj and Callum Maltese sealed the three points to move them up to eighth in the Essex Senior League at Cricklefield Stadium.

Hamlets slipped to back-to-back defeats to keep them pinned second from bottom in the league.

The Foxes got off to a strong start and it was almost 1-0 in the third minute when a Tower Hamlets defender collided with goalkeeper Jordan Stansbury.

Striker Yemi Adelani pounced on the loose ball but sent his effort wide from inside the box.

Five minutes later Yazzer Nazor broke down the right flank, played in Adelani, who rounded the keeper and fired wide despite having an open net.

In the 14th minute they finally broke the deadlock when Lion Docaj slotted the ball into the bottom left corner after after intercepting the ball inside Tower Hamlets box.

They continued to pile the pressure on and Jamal Dzotsi headed an incoming corner down for Nazor who miss hit the ball and sent it spinning wide.

Shortly after Nazor had another chance as he curled the ball over the bar after beating Scott Elliot down the right flank.

In the 33rd minute, Hamlets got out of their own half as Amin Walton-Owen pounced on a mistake from Nazor and drilled a shot at the Ilford goal.

Goalkeeper Hugo Rosetti pulled off a great save to tip it wide for a corner but nothing came of it.

Foxes Adelani chested the ball down inside the box and fired an effort wide of the goal in the 40th minute.

Callum Maltese doubled his side’s lead two minutes before half-time as he latched onto the ball and put his laces through it to send it into the bottom corner.

The second goal seemed to spark some life into the Hamlets side as they broke down the pitch with Tony Cookey leading the charge.

The striker tried to find Simon Bamidele but it went too far for him, although he did get hold of the ball, and play it inside for Walton-Owen whose shot was denied by Rosetti.

Second-half, the visitors came out a completely different side with a lot of possession in the opening ten minutes.

Flavio Jumo then turned and fired a shot in the 55th minute with his shot almost rolling in but Rosetti got his finger tips to the ball.

Ten minutes later Bamidele broke clear but Rosetti came rushing out to deny the striker.

Rosetti became the hero for the Foxes as he then pulled off another few vital saves.

They pushed for a final attempt in the 88th minute when Luke Thomas fired a free-kick well over the bar.
