BFA confirm appointment of youth team coach while Anwar Uddin gives his backing to the new man in charge

The Bangladesh Football Association have confirmed Imrul Gazi is the new manager of Essex Senior League club Sporting Bengal United.

He replaces ex-Dagenham & Redbridge captain Anwar Uddin, who announced he would be leaving last month after one campaign in charge of the east Londoners.

A statement from the BFA read: “After interviewing several candidates, BFA decided on the appointment of Imrul Gazi as the board are confident that he will continue with the progression that the football club has made this past season.

“Having been part of the management structure during the previous regime and also a former player for Sporting Bengal, BFA are confident Imrul will bring good qualities to move the team forward.

“His local knowledge, connections with local teams and being part of the coaching team at Sporting Bengal Academy, Imrul will give opportunities to our local talent to play for Sporting Bengal.

“Imrul will take over from Anwar Uddon who stepped down recently after one season in charge of Sporting. Imrul will also be stepping down from his role as BFA committee member to concentrate on his new role as Sporting Bengal manager.

“BFA would like to thank all candidates who applied for the Sporting managerial post. With everyone’s support, we are confident Imrul and his management team will have a successful time at Sporting.”

Uddin took to Twitter after the news was revealed to wish his successor good luck at the Mile End Stadium.

He said: “Very pleased to see Imrul announced as Sporting Bengal gaffer. He devoted lots of time to the club and now takes on an exciting squad. Top man.”
