Italian believes former Huddersfield Town ace will be good signing and discusses if squad have improved since his arrival

Leyton Orient manager Alberto Cavasin believes Michael Collins will be a good signing for the Brisbane Road club.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international signed a short term deal with O’s last week and made his debut during the 2-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra in League Two.

Collins could start tomorrow’s FA Cup first round tie at Sheffield United and in the process make his full debut for the east Londoners.

“We saw him play and we need a midfielder because Liam Kelly is going to be out for some time,” said Cavasin via a translator.

“We saw some clips of his best matches and some from his whole career and we had the chance to see him for a week.

“He is a player who trained well and was ready and we felt he would be a good man for the team.”

Last Saturday’s defeat to Crewe resulted in Orient dropping into relegation zone of League Two.

It is a worrying place for O’s to be with 15 games played so far this season and with the ambition in the summer to achieve promotion.

Since Cavasin replaced Andy Hessenthaler at the beginning of October, the east Londoners have claimed only one victory from his five matches in all competitions.

But the experienced Italian believes the squad have made improvements, adding: “My worries have not changed since the beginning of my adventure here.

“The results have not changed. We need to just keep at it and improve. I could say there have been many improvements but you can have good results by not even improving at all that is the difference.

“It is not about how many improvements the team does, it is the fact about how we can work as a team and not concede so easily.”
