The Boreham Wood manager praised the work of Justin Edinburgh after Saturday's match

Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard has paid tribute to the job done by Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh so far and tipped the E10 outfit to go close to promotion from the National League this season.

The O’s are one of only five teams still unbeaten in the division and made it two wins out of five last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Wood.

Since Edinburgh took over from Steve Davis on November 29, Orient have gone from strength to strength and Garrard believed they will be in the running for promotion this season.

He said: “They have to be in the top seven, I have to be honest. They are a massive side at this level.

“They are one of the biggest clubs in non-league and they would go into League Two and have a good go, and that is not me putting pressure on Justin.

“Justin has done a fantastic job and after winning two and drawing three from their first five, I imagine they will be in the top seven.

“When you can bring (Alex) Lawless and (James) Alabi on for the last 10 minutes and you have still got Sam Ling on the bench plus George Elokobi, James Brophy and Charlie Grainger in the stands, it shows you the strength in depth they have and I imagine they will go close this season.”

Boreham Wood reached the play-off final during the 2017/18 campaign, but lost 2-1 to Tranmere Rovers at Wembley.

After finishing fourth last season with 75 points after winning 20 of their 46 fixtures, Garrard conceded it will be tough for his current group of players to match those feats after seeing various players depart this summer.

He added: “Another play-off push would be fantastic, but I have to be a little bit more realistic.

“We had an overhaul of players in and out and we need to be a group who are healing as much as rebuilding.

“As much as we want to achieve and be competitive this season, our aim is to be as high as possible.”
