33-year-old had fostered a strong team spirit and got the fans backing the players, but has decided enough is enough

Danny Webb has resigned as Leyton Orient manager after only two months in charge of the League Two club.

The 33-year-old was handed the thankless task of trying to steer O’s away from the bottom two on January 29.

Straight from the start Webb spoke about how he was planning for the future and not just living week-by-week.

The former under-18s boss had to wait until his third game to pick up a point after a 1-1 draw at Yeovil Town.

Webb then masterminded a sensational 3-2 away win at promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle to give Orient hope.

But a six-match suspension for vice-captain Liam Kelly on top of several injury issues has resulted in a modest set of results.

Webb lost nine of his 12 games in charge, winning two and drawing one, but had the support of the O’s players.

The inexperienced manager had fostered a strong team spirit and got the fans backing the team despite several off the field problems.

After Saturday’s defeat at Crawley Town, Webb called on Orient chairman Francesco Becchetti to let people know his plans for the future.

Just four days later and Webb has made the decision to resign and O’s are now onto their fifth boss of the campaign.

Omer Riza is understood to have been offered the job as Orient manager, but he will be left with a hugely difficult task.

The O’s are seven points from safety with only seven games left and set to host Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
