AFC Fylde and Leyton Orient have scored plenty of goals this season, but they have both also not let many in either

Leyton Orient face a long trip up to AFC Fylde on Saturday and they will hope to produce a repeat of the 1-0 victory they achieved at Mill Farm last season.

The two clubs are among the best in the National League and many will expect the pair to be involved in the play-offs at the very least come the end of the campaign.

O’s head coach Justin Edinburgh is under no illusions about the size of the task at hand on Saturday, but also knows his men will visit Fylde with plenty of belief.

Last season, Orient made the trip to Wesham to do battle with the Coasters and clinched an impressive 1-0 success after Macauley Bonne scored a penalty to hand them a vital three points in their bid to beat the drop.

What made the result even better was the fact Fylde went on to finish inside the top seven and Edinburgh expects them to be there again come April time.

He said: “We came up against them last season and they made the play-offs. They have not made wholesale changes, but they’ve added and they are accomplished and understand the league.

“I expect them to be in and around it again and there are a lot of teams who continue to put in good performances and collect points, so every game is tough and that one this weekend will certainly be tough.”

Orient’s James Dayton echoed the thoughts of his manager and predicted an eye-catching clash with both clubs eager to pass the ball and try to play football.

“It is a long, old season, so a few bad results can see you drop down the table, but Fylde are a good footballing team,” said Dayton, after Saturday’s 4-0 win at home to Havant & Waterlooville.

“We are a good footballing team too, and we have showed that, so I think it will be a good spectacle.”

Orient and Fylde are among the top goalscorers in the National League this season, but don’t expect plenty of goals on Saturday.

The two sides boast some of the meanest defences in the division, so this weekend’s match could all be about who takes their chances.

After winning 4-0 on Saturday, Edinburgh’s men played out a 1-1 draw at Eastleigh on Tuesday with Bonne equalising in the 66th minute.

The result saw O’s drop from first back to third, but they are only a point off top spot.
