The Premier League is back this weekend, and West Ham United have the not-so-simple task of an opening day trip to Manchester United.

The Hammers are set to come face-to-face with nemesis Romelu Lukaku, who moved to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer.

The forward did not score when he last faced West Ham with the Toffees in April, though prior to that had scored in nine consecutive matches against the east Londoners.

West Ham’s summer signing Javier Hernandez is in line to make his debut for his new club when he returns to his old team, having had a five-year spell as a United player from 2010 to 2015, though his final season was spent on loan at Real Madrid.

Elsewhere, Leyton Orient go in search of consecutive wins in the National League when they host Maidstone United on Saturday.

The O’s beat Solihull Moors on Tuesday night, giving them a boost having lost on the opening day at Sutton United last weekend.

Divisional rivals Dagenham & Redbridge, meanwhile, make the trip to fellow promotion candidates Eastleigh after the stellar start to the new term.

John Still’s side have won their first two games, at home to Barrow and at Boreham Wood, 2-1, so are still looking for a first clean sheet of the season.

Archant London’s Dave Evans, George Sessions and Jacob Ranson sat down with Ned Keating to discuss all this and more on the latest East London Football podcast.
