Midfielder agrees two-year deal at Sky Blues after leaving O’s following relegation

Liam Kelly has agreed a two-year deal at Coventry City after leaving Leyton Orient following the conclusion of the 2016/17 campaign.

The midfielder exercised an option in his contract to exit the club after O’s suffered relegation to the National League last season.

Kelly will officially join the Sky Blues on July 1 and the transfer is subject to EFL and FA approval.

Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “We’re delighted at the prospect of welcoming Liam to the club.

“He is a very talented footballer who will contribute goals from midfield for us, which is something that is vital to any successful team.

“Liam is also a leader both on and off the pitch, and a fantastic character to have around the club. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Kelly made 24 appearances for Orient last season, scoring four times and was among their best performers during a difficult campaign.

The ex-Oldham Athletic skipper missed five months after tearing his calf and he was sorely missed during that period.

Despite returning towards the end of the campaign, Kelly was unable to prevent Orient suffering relegation and leaves Brisbane Road after one season at the club.
