The Buckinghamshire-based Rams will visit the capital on Saturday to take on National League leaders Leyton Orient

Beaconsfield Town are preparing for the biggest game in their history on Saturday away to Leyton Orient in the FA Trophy first round and manager Gary Meakin insists they will not be there to merely make up the numbers.

The Rams, who ply their trade in the Southern League Premier Division South, are out to make a name for themselves in east London this weekend.

Justin Edinburgh’s O’s will be the overwhelming favourites to progress, but they cannot afford to be complacent against the Buckinghamshire-based side.

Meakin told the official club website: “We’re very pleased with the draw. It’s the one we wanted as our vice-chairman (Steve Sweetlove) is also a season-ticket holder at Leyton Orient.

“It’s a great draw that will hopefully get people talking about our club as we often go under the radar. We also won’t just be going there to make up the numbers.”

On paper it appears a good tie for Edinburgh’s team with the Rams two levels below the O’s in the non-league pyramid.

After winning the Southern League Division One East last season, Beaconsfield have adapted to life in a higher division with ease.

They are in the top half, in seventh place, and have a number of former professionals in their ranks like one-time Shrewsbury Town striker Marvin Morgan and ex-Queens Park Rangers trainee Wes Daly.

Orient will play host to the Buckingshire-based club on Saturday and the clash should give boss Edinburgh a chance to give minutes to the people who have either been on the bench or not made the matchday squad recently.

The winner will pocket £6,000 in prize money and O’s, even if they do rotate, will be confident of making it through, although hopefully in less dramatic circumstances compared to last season’s 2-1 first round win at Haringey Borough.
