Orient had an unlikely goalscoring hero in the form of defender Mathieu Baudry - and the Frenchman admits he has no idea what he was doing so high up the pitch to secure a point at promotion rivals Wolves.

Baudry converted Moses Odubajo’s cross at the far post following Dean Cox’s quick free-kick just before the hour mark.

The game finished 1-1, a scoreline which looked unlikely during a first half which the home side dominated and missed countless chances to put the match beyond the O’s.

“I don’t know what happened but I found myself up there in a great position,” said Baudry.

“I kept running and it was a good cross from Mo (Odubajo).

“I joked before the game that I’d score my first goal of the season in front of 30,000 people.”

A bumper crowd of almost 29,000 turned out to watch the clash between first and second in League One.

Wolves exploded out of the blocks and took the lead with less than four minutes on the clock.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell rifled home at the near post after being fed by Kevin McDonald in the right corner of the penalty area.

From there they proceeded to miss a number of glorious chances before Baudry made them pay.

As Baudry admitted: “They started really well. We really struggled in the first half and said at half-time we just needed to stay in the game.

“We came back and scored and to get a point was great. It showed the character of the team and symbolises our season.”

The draw saw Brentford leapfrog both clubs to top League One at the turn of the year.

Baudry reflected on an excellent 2013 – and is seeking more of the same in the coming year.

“We’re confident and we’re not scared of anyone,” said the Frenchman.

“We’ll take a point away at Wolves. It’s a really good one, but we want to carry it on in 2014.

“If we don’t make the top six we’ll be disappointed but we’re taking nothing for granted.”
