The O’s head coach discusses financial incentive of beating the Iron and how Orient will be better than they were on Saturday

Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon admits he understands how much a third round tie in the FA Cup at Chelsea is worth to the club.

The O’s travel to Glanford Park tonight (Tuesday) to take on League One side Scunthorpe United for a second round replay.

Whoever wins the tie will have a clash at Stamford Bridge to prepare for on Sunday January 10 – live on BT Sports.

Although Hendon knows how a big a match that could be for the Brisbane Road outfit, he is concentrating on facing the Iron first.

The League One team were disappointing in east London on December 5, but Orient’s head coach expects his side to be improved from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town.

“We know what the Chelsea game could be worth to the club and we will be trying our damnedest to get through,” said Hendon.

“But we will worry about the Chelsea match after Tuesday when hopefully we have got a positive result.

“I expect a better Leyton Orient team at Scunthorpe, we were scrappy second half at Mansfield Town.

“We said that in the changing room after. Now our focus is on the FA Cup and we need to put in a better performance.”

Orient perhaps should have won the second round tie at Brisbane Road earlier this month with Ollie Palmer missing two great chances.

The goalless draw was an impressive result nevertheless considering they were up against a team from the division above.

Hendon believes all the pressure is on the home side at Glanford Park tonight, adding: “Facing Chelsea next is a great prize, but we have got to beat Scunthorpe first and foremost.

“Any celebrations if you like will have to come after the game because we are not at Chelsea yet.

“It is a great carrot there to be dangled and if the players needed any motivation that is it.

“We will go to Scunthorpe, we are the underdogs away from home against a League One team and the pressure is on them.”

It is but a victory for the O’s would be a huge highlight for the club and Hendon just six months into their relationship together.
