Maidstone United boss reveals Orient are in talks about signing Jack Parkinson

Leyton Orient have offered a contract to trialist Jack Parkinson, according to the Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders.

The youngster has featured for Ian Hendon’s side recently in pre-season victories against Woking and Bishop’s Stortford.

He lined up in defence alongside Alan Dunne at Woking, where the O’s won 4-0 before playing in midfield at Stortford – helping his side to a 4-2 triumph.

It seems those performances, as well as his displays at training, have been enough to convince Hendon to offer the former Maidstone man a deal.

Stones’ boss told Kent Online that Parkinson has a decision to make over his future, but won’t be returning to Maidstone where he played his football during the 2014/15 campaign.

“Jack’s been offered a deal by Orient and I think he’s in talks, so I expect he will be leaving Maidstone,” said Saunders.

“I’ve kind of said to him now we’re at a point where he’s missed most of pre-season and I think its best he finds another club. I expect him to be gone in the next week or so really.

“I know there’s a couple of other National South teams interested in him as well but if he takes Orient’s offer I think he’ll do all right in the league.

“You never know until you test yourself. I told him he’d be silly not to take it, go and test yourself, and I think that’s what he’ll do.”

Parkinson was on trial at Cambridge United earlier this summer and although a move for the defender didn’t work out there, he appears close to sealing a switch to a Football League club in the shape of Orient.

If the youngster does join Hendon at Brisbane Road, it seems he will be able to provide cover in a number of different positions.
