Ruel Sotiriou and Hector Kyprianou have appeared for Bishop’s Stortford recently while former O’s trainee Toby Stevenson made headlines last night

Bishop’s Stortford are hoping to bring Ruel Sotiriou back to the club after the Leyton Orient youngster impressed during his brief stint with the Hertfordshire outfit.

The 18-year-old signed on loan for the Bostik Premier side on September 18 and helped the Blues win against Hertford Town, Carshalton Athletic and Tonbridge Angels.

Sotiriou then picked up an injury during a match with Wingate & Finchley on October 2 when O’s boss Justin Edinburgh was in attendance and has been back at his parent club since.

But former Orient forward Jamie Cureton, who is the interim player-manager at Bishop’s Stortford alongside Steve Smith, said: “I think Ruel is okay now.

“We’d like to bring him back, he did really well and I think he liked it here. It was a shame he got injured and had to go back because it was the first game we had played together and he was doing really well.

“He unfortunately picked up the injury and it is a shame because he has missed two games now, but we are hopeful he can come back.

“I am pretty sure Steve will talk to the club and we’ll see if we can get him in again. I think he enjoyed it, we try to look after them. I think they know as much as they are coming into an environment which is non-league, we do like to do the right things.

“So, if we can get a little relationship going with Orient that would be great and if they can come here and do well and go back to Orient and they are better prepared to play in their first team then everyone is a winner.”

While Stortford have had to make do without Sotiriou since the start of this month, the Blues have been given another one of O’s promising youngsters.

Hector Kyprianou signed for Cureton and Smith’s side on Tuesday afternoon on a work experience loan and made his debut in a 8-7 shoot-out win over Tilbury in the Velocity Trophy the same night.

The versatile O’s under-18 ace completed 74 minutes at the ProKit UK Stadium and earned praise from boss and team-mate Cureton after an accomplished display in the middle of the park.

He added: “I think Hector could be a really good signing for us. We’ve had Ruel here too, so Orient have been great.

“Hector come in against Tilbury and is a young lad, but he held himself really well and played over 70 minutes and he looks a good player.

“I think it is great for him to come and play men’s football and we are looking forward to keeping him and he will be involved in every game we play, but it is down to him. If he continues to play well, he will keep his shirt and that is what we want.”

While Kyprianou was impressing in Stortford, one of his former O’s under-18 team-mates was catching the eye on his professional debut also in Hertfordshire.

Charlton Athletic youngster Toby Stevenson, who played for Orient’s academy last season, made his debut for the Addicks in their English Football League Trophy Southern Group G game at Stevenage last night.

The defender featured at left wing-back and netted a sensational hat-trick after scoring in the 27th, 59th and 74th minute at Broadhall Way.

Speaking after the 8-0 victory, Charlton manager Lee Bowyer told the official club website: “We’re short in that area and the young lad, okay he didn’t get tested defensively, but in possession he did well.

“He got a bit ahead of himself at the start of the second half, but he was outstanding.”
