The O's boss expects his team to get better when some of their previously injured players return to full fitness

Justin Edinburgh is not getting carried away with Leyton Orient’s fine start to the new National League season and knows they must continue to improve.

The O’s are one of only three teams still unbeaten in the division, but they will see that record tested at Chesterfield on Saturday.

It is the second of four long trips up north for Orient in the space of four weeks and they know they will be seriously tested in September.

“We have a lot of away journeys coming up and we started it with Gateshead (1-1 draw) last weekend,” Edinburgh said.

“Now we go to Chesterfield, then Halifax Town and Harrogate Town over the next month, but we are doing okay.

“We have just got to keep looking to improve and nothing changes for us. We will assess the players and we look forward to Saturday.”

Orient will at least travel up to face Martin Allen’s team with lots of different options available to boss Edinburgh.

Dale Gorman made his debut off the bench last weekend and Matt Harrold showed his class with a goal in the 3-0 win over Dover Athletic on Monday.

Edinburgh added: “We believe we will only get stronger because people like Dale and Charlie Lee and Matt will get fitter and fitter as the weeks pass.

“They have missed a lot of football and James Dayton is the same and we knew in pre-season they were behind, so they will all only improve.”

It boosts the spirit inside the O’s camp ahead of Saturday’s intriguing clash with a side who got relegated from League Two last season.

While Chesterfield head into the contest off the back of four straight defeats, Orient have won three of their last four matches.

The O’s head coach said: “We go there confident, but we won’t get carried away. We know what we are about and how we want to play and what we need to do to play that way.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the players’ attitude and the way they have performed in the two tough games we faced over the Bank Holiday weekend.”
