It is a fantastic start from the boys, says Edinburgh

After 14 games the O's are in and around where they want to be in the National League

Justin Edinburgh has heaped praise on his Leyton Orient team for the way they have started the National League campaign and backed them to go on another impressive unbeaten run.

Sutton United inflicted the O’s first defeat of the season on Saturday with a 1-0 win in E10 with the only goal of the game scored by Jonah Ayunga in the 48th minute.

It ended Orient’s 13-match run without a loss this term, but boss Edinburgh reflected on the positives after last weekend’s reverse.

He said: “It’s a long season and we are a third of a way through and sitting second, so it’s a fantastic start from the boys and now it’s about how we maintain this consistency going forward.”

Ahead of the new campaign, Orient went about their business quietly and - unlike the current leaders Salford City – chose not to shout their ambitions from the rooftop.

It has seen the east Londoners build a gap between themselves and the sides outside of the play-offs.

This has been achieved slightly under the radar, although the 3-0 success at Harrogate Town on September 22 did see O’s make headline news again.

Edinburgh is happy with how things have gone so far, he added: “We want to be in and around where we are and it is a fantastic start.

“It wouldn’t matter if we were not on an unbeaten run, we certainly do not like losing football matches and especially at home.

“This is the first defeat at home this season and it is the first defeat of the season, so it makes it more frustrating in that sense.”

While disappointment was Orient’s overriding feeling come full time on Saturday, now they have had time to reflect on the opening 14 games, everyone at the club should feel a huge sense of pride.

Already a huge amount has been achieved, and yet there is a long way to go if this campaign is to end with O’s back where they belong.

It is only a start, but Orient have a platform to build on now and will be determined to make the most of it.
