The Heed are seventh in the table and have impressed again this season under Steve Watson

Leyton Orient manager Justin Edinburgh knows his team will have to improve from Tuesday night against Aldershot Town if they are to defeat Gateshead in the National League on Saturday.

The Heed make their third trip to E10 since October 2017 looking to cause a surprise against the division leaders.

Orient are top by a single point, but were held to a goalless draw by Aldershot earlier this week and Edinburgh knows the O’s must return to their consistent best to pick up all three points against a team which held them to a 1-1 draw back on August 25.

He said: “Gateshead have maintained their good start like a lot of teams and I’ve said before about how it will go right until the end.

“There are not many sides who are pulling away and we know Gateshead are a good side. We had to score late up there to get something out of the game and we’ll have to be better than we were against Aldershot to take maximum points.

“It is key we stick together and don’t get frustrated and I am sure Saturday will be a tough game, but one where we have to raise the level of performance to get something from it.”

Edinburgh hinted after the draw with Shots he might freshen up his starting XI for the visit of Gateshead.

James Brophy has made an impression off the bench in recent matches and could earn a spot from the off on Saturday.

“I know in my head there was one or two who might have needed freshening up, so I will look at that for Gateshead,” Edinburgh said.

Although Orient were frustrated to not pick up a win at home on Tuesday, they ended the month of November unbeaten.

It has been a tremendous few weeks for the club with wins achieved away to AFC Fylde and Wrexham and at home to Bromley.

Ahead of December, Edinburgh will be eager for his team to try and push on again, he added: “It has been a good month for us because we went unbeaten and it is 22 league games now and only one defeat.

“We were frustrated against Aldershot, but we will not be too down and I have taken the responsibility because maybe we need to freshen up one or two and we will now look at that and go again on Saturday.”
