Fourth signing this week concludes an excellent couple of days for east Londoners with plenty of positivity back at the club
Leyton Orient have completed their fourth signing of the week by announcing left-back Callum Kennedy has joined the club.
The 26-year-old makes the switch to Brisbane Road after being released by AFC Wimbledon at the end of the past season.
He helped the Dons achieve promotion to League One via the play-offs and featured in every minute of their two-legged semi-final with Accrington Stanley and in the final against Plymouth Argyle at Wembley.
During the final, the left-back set up Lyle Taylor’s opener and nearly scored from the penalty spot after initially demanding the ball off Adebayo Akinfenwa before he eventually let the forward take the spot-kick.
Kennedy, who began his career at Swindon Town, but struggled for opportunities during his five-year stay with the Robins, has signed a contract with the O’s until the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
The ex-Scunthorpe United defender made 24 appearances for Wimbledon last season and scored twice. He played in the 1-0 loss Orient suffered at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in April, but departed after their promotion from League Two was confirmed.
Kennedy appears likely to be a first choice for Andy Hessenthaler’s team and has worked with the 50-year-old before.
While at Swindon, the left-back joined Gillingham on a month’s loan in November 2010 and played three times for the Kent outfit.
Hessenthaler was manager of Gills at the time and will now work with the full back for the upcoming campaign.
Kennedy is expected to battle with 20-year-old Josh Doherty for the left-back spot after the youngster joined following his release from Watford this week.
But with the ex-Dons man vastly experienced at this level, it is expected he will be a regular in the Orient team for the forthcoming season.
This addition caps an excellent week for the Brisbane Road outfit after they previously annouced the signings of Robbie Weir, Doherty and Gavin Massey and appointed Andy Edwards as assistant manager yesterday.
