Leyton Orient Football Club look set to face a winding-up order at the High Court later this month brought against them by HM Revenue and Customs.

A document published on the London Gazette this morning revealed the worrying news regarding the League Two club.

It appears a petition over the winding-up of Orient was presented on February 2 – days after ex-O’s boss Andy Edwards left.

“A petition to wind up the above-named company, Registration Number 88982, of, Matchroom Stadium, Brisbane Road Leyton, London, E10 5NE, presented on 2 February 2017 by the COMMISSIONERS FOR HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS, of South West Wing, Bush House, Strand, London, WC2B 4RD, claiming to be Creditors of the Company, will be heard at the High Court, Royal Courts of Justice, 7 Rolls Building, Fetter Lane, London, EC4A 1NL on 20 March 2017 at 1030 hours (or as soon thereafter as the Petition can be heard),” the document read.

“Any persons intending to appear on the hearing of the Petition (whether to support or oppose it) must give notice of intention to do so to the Petitioners or to their Solicitor in accordance with Rule 4.16 by 1600 hours on 17 March 2017.”

Several other football clubs have recently faced winding-up orders including Notts County and Nottingham Forest.

The cases to wind the aforementioned clubs up were later dismissed, but these are worrying times for Orient.

Administration is a possibility for O’s and if that were to happen, it would mean a 10-point deduction, which would ultimately confirm relegation to the National League.

Leyton Orient have been contacted for a comment, but won’t be commenting on the matter at this moment in time.
