Leyton Orient supporter Barry Galvin and Kenny Toal have released a song to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Somme.

The Greater Game, a tribute to the Orient squad that fought in the World War One battle, is available to download on Amazon, iTunes and all other major download sites.

It starts off with an extract of one of Richard McFadden’s letters revealing O’s team mate William Jonas had died at the Somme.

Galvin then goes on to tell the tale of the then Clapton Orient squad all signing up to fight for King and County.

Last month more than 200 O’s supporters made the trip to visit the battlefield of northern France.

They paid their respects to the thousands that lost their lives during the Battle of the Somme including three Clapton Orient players – McFadden, Jonas and George Scott.

Whilst in Delville Wood, Galvin performed the song to various O’s supporters two days before the centenary of Jonas’ death there

Orient fans have been commemorating their club’s service and sacrifice for many years and have now released a song to mark the 100 year anniversary.

In addition to the song and video, produced by Elliot Byrne, titled The Greater Game, which is available to view here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdOczMtfkW8&sns=em, Supporters club deputy chairman Steve Jenkins has brought out a book called ‘They took the lead.’

This tells the story of Clapton Orient’s major contribution to the Footballers’ Battalion and the book has now been made into a play, which is also called ‘The Greater Game’ and coming to the Southwark Playhouse next month for four weeks.
