Andy Hessenthaler makes first signing after becoming O's manager on Friday evening
Leyton Orient have announced former Burton Albion midfielder Robbie Weir is their first signing of the summer.
The 27-year-old was released by the Brewers at the end of the 2015/16 campaign after four years with the club.
He made over 150 appearances for the Staffordshire-based team and played an integral part in their back-to-back promotions in recent years.
Weir was born in Belfast and joined Sunderland as a youngster before getting his first break at Tranmere Rovers in 2011.
After a season with the Merseyside outfit, he moved to Burton and enjoyed plenty of success as they won promotion from League Two first before doing the same in League One the following campaign.
The Northern Irish midfielder admitted he was gutted to be leaving the now Championship club when the news was announcement last month that he wouldn’t be getting another contract.
But now he’ll link up with the east Londoners and is Andy Hessenthaler’s first official signing since being handed the managerial duties on a permanent basis last week.
Weir spoke to the official Burton website after signing a two-year deal at Brisbane Road with the option of another year, he said: “It was good at Burton Albion.
“I had some fantastic times there – being promoted into League One and then into the Championship. I am looking to produce similar things here at Leyton Orient.”
The O’s are expected to announce more new additions this week as planning gets underway for the new League Two campaign.
