Leyton Orient boss Fabio Liverani is convinced his side will avoid the drop from League One, despite their 3-1 defeat against leaders Bristol City at Brisbane Road last night.

O’s went into the match having won three of their four previous matches to move up to 21st in the table and took an early lead against the Robins thanks to Chris Dagnall.

But Luke Freeman levelled and Aden Flint’s bullet header put the visitors in front, with captain Aaron Wilbraham sealing the points in the second half.

Nonetheless, Italian Liverani was encouraged by what he saw and said: “I am pleased with the performance, I’m convinced even more that if we keep playing like this we will avoid relegation.

We faced the first in the table, they’ve got very good players and the difference is the two chances.

We created chances, we’ve been in the game until the end and yes we lost but I’m very pleased with the performance.

We had a good start and we were fit throughout the whole game. We played good football with the ball and again physically.

We lost the game but I’m convinced with these performances we are on the right track.”

Liverani had the rare luxury of being able to name Orient’s first unchanged side of the season, following Saturday’s 2-0 win at Walsall, but revealed he may well have to tinker with his line-up for the trip to Peterborough at the weekend.

He added: “We have recovered basically almost all the injured players so we don’t have any more injuries, so we kept the same formation.

“Normally when you play every three days three games in seven days it’s the third match is normally the one where you struggle a bit more physically.

“The players will have a day off to recover physically and mentally then we will have Thursday and Friday to prepare the game for Peterborough, but for us there might be some slight changes.”
