It has been an eventful couple of days for Mansfield Town’s Matt Green, who was heavily linked with Leyton Orient on Friday.

The 29-year-old was subject of a £500,000 bid from the O’s allegedly, although that has since been rubbished as pure speculation.

Orient have registered an interest in the Stags striker, though, but haven’t placed an offer in for him.

After the rumours on Friday night, Green started for Mansfield at Brisbane Road the following day and was at the centre of the action.

Firstly he missed a penalty in the 22nd minute as he ballooned an effort way over Alex Cisak’s crossbar.

But eventually he had the last laugh as he scored the winner a minute from time after a wonderful chest down by Mitchell Rose.

It earned Mansfield a 2-1 success and their manager Adam Murray said: “Matt Green scores goals and the big thing I was over the moon with on Saturday was his performance.

“He worked his so and so’s off, him and Darius Henderson were a real threat and we brought CJ Hamilton on, which brings a different element to the team.

“I think you’ve seen when Matt scored what the club means to him and what the goal means to him and more importantly what the lads mean to him.

“He walked in the changing room at the end and said that was for the boys so we’re a tight-knit group, we were last year and we’re even tighter this season and you’ve seen at the end what it means for Matt and the rest of us.”

After finding the net, Green wheeled off and sparked jubilant celebrations from all of his Mansfield team-mates and the coaching staff.

Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler was quizzed after the striker after the game, but refused to confirm his interest in the former Oxford United ace.

He said: “I don’t know anything about Matt Green other than he scored the goal against us.”

Although the O’s haven’t confirmed it, they are interested in the forward, but it would take a significant amount of money to prize him away from Mansfield.
