Midfielder Jamie Ness had been on the field less than 20 minutes when he let fly from distance to score his first goal for Orient, helping his new team crush Carlisle in the process.

And the Scot claims he’s delighted to be experiencing first-team football after being frustrated in Stoke’s under-21 team.

The 22-year-old added he would be interested in staying at Brisbane Road beyond his initial one-month loan if something can be sorted between his parent club and the O’s.

“The ball came to me and I thought I’d have a dig, luckily it ended up in the bottom corner,” said Ness on his goal.

“I’m really enjoying it. It’s a bit different being down in London to Stoke but it’s great getting a few more games under my belt.

“It would be great to be a part of something with Orient but I need to see what Stoke want to do. “Initially they only wanted me down here for a month but if I’m playing well and we’re getting results it would be great to keep playing football instead of going back and not being involved.”

After victory over the Cumbrians, Orient travel north to take on Crewe Alexandra, just 15 miles from Ness’s parent club.

Despite the Railwaymen being deep in relegation trouble, the midfielder is taking nothing for granted on Saturday.

He said: “Every game in League One is difficult, we saw that at Shrewsbury.

“Going away the pitch might not be as good as it is at Brisbane Road.

“I don’t really know much about the Crewe team but it will be a tough game and we’ll prepare in the right way to put ourselves in the right frame of mind.”
