Experienced defender discusses visiting Blundell Park, the squad sticking together and needing to build on the Stevenage victory

Nicky Hunt has told his Leyton Orient team-mates they must build momentum in League Two and get another positive result when they visit Grimsby Town.

Andy Hessenthaler watched the O’s defeat Stevenage 3-0 on Tuesday night to earn their first win of the new campaign.

Gavin Massey netted a brace, while Dean Cox headed home from the edge of the box as Boro were put to the sword.

But Orient right-back Hunt has warned it will count for little unless they deliver another strong display at Blundell Park.

“If we don’t build on this at the weekend, we’ve let everyone down and each and every one of us down,” said Hunt.

“After this performance against Stevenage, we’ll go to Grimsby on a high and want to get another three points because it will kick-start our season.

“There are a lot of long trips in League Two. You’ve got Carlisle, Grimsby, Plymouth and Exeter. It is part and parcel of football.

“We’ll travel up on Friday and hopefully not get stuck in any traffic, turn up, get the win and have a nice journey home.”

After picking up an ankle injury during the summer, Hunt was a substitute at Cheltenham Town on the opening day of the season.

The right-back started against Fulham in the first round of the English Football League Cup and played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday.

He took over from Sean Clohessy and is now hoping to keep his spot in the starting XI at Blundell Park.

But Hunt knows that the whole squad need to stick together even when you are not involved with so many matches to come this year.

He added: “As a squad we’re a tight-knit group, we have got a big squad so you’ll have unhappy players when they don’t play.

“But it’s how we react on and off the pitch, we’ve got to support everyone from the bench and the stands onto the pitch. If we do that this season then I think we’ll be in and abouts the promotion race.”
