Brisbane Road boss looks back on loss to Accrington Stanley and a lack of quality in final third

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan hailed the performance of Accrington Stanley forward Billy Kee following yesterday’s match.

The O’s fell to a 1-0 defeat on the road with Scott Brown scoring the only goal of the game at Crown Ground in the 51st minute.

Kee brilliantly chested the ball down for his Stanley team mate to rifle past away custodian Alex Cisak.

It was a wonderful piece of quality and the 25-year-old was the best player on the pitch during the League Two clash.

Nolan said: “I thought the two defences were probably on top and Billy Kee was probably the difference.

“He did the right things more often than not and helped Accrington get their goal as well as see the game out.

“The second half seemed to drag, well not drag, but go by without anything really happening except their goal. That is something we’ve got to change and what we’ll be working on.”

Orient’s boss conceded they weren’t good enough in the final third against a promotion rival.

Another away success on Good Friday would have seen the east Londoners just two points behind Accrington.

But after the reverse they trail the Lancashire outfit by seven points with just eight more matches remaining.

“We’ve restricted them to limited opportunities, but we can’t keep relying on getting that clean sheet,” said Nolan.

“I think we have got to get better with our forward play. We work all week on the training ground, we do a lot of crossing and finishing.

“The lads are getting plenty of goals and putting it into the back of the net in training, but at Accrington it just didn’t work. Credit obviously goes to their back four.”

With Wycombe Wanderers beating Mansfield Town 1-0, the O’s have dropped down to eighth in the standings.
