Brisbane Road boss disappointed with sloppy goal and discusses his own performances for O’s

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan didn’t think last week’s trip to Carlisle United played a part in their defeat to Luton Town on Saturday.

The Hatters left Brisbane Road with all three points in after Jack Marriott scored the only goal of the game in the first half.

Nolan’s side had a difficult journey to the Cumbrians last Tuesday (March 1), but picked up a point following a 2-2 draw.

And the Orient boss refused to use the travelling as an excuse for their loss against the Bedfordshire club in League Two.

He said: “I don’t think Tuesday’s trip had any effect on us, in my eyes and being out there I think we were in control of the game from start to finish.

“If anybody else saw anything different, I’d like to know where they were watching it from. I’m just really disappointed with the fact that we conceded such a sloppy goal.

“I think it was a sloppy one to concede, especially when we see the quality we have in the back four.

“We have two experienced centre halves and Nicky Hunt and Jerome Binnom-Williams, who have now been playing together for while and got a connection.

“I’m really disappointed and I’ve told them, I said it to their faces, but hopefully we’ll start taking them silly little errors out of our game.”

Nolan played his eighth match for the club and it was his six start in a row since making his full debut against Portsmouth on February 6.

The former West Ham United captain admits he isn’t up to speed yet, but is slowly adjusting to League Two football.

“I go home and evaluate my performance as a player and then as manager with the coaching staff we evaluate the performance of everybody,” said Nolan.

“I’m getting there, I enjoyed the game with Luton. I feel I can still get better, I know I can, I’m still getting used to this play and being in League Two.

“I believe I’m finding my feet and slowly but surely getting that sharpness. Hopefully you’ll see me popping up a bit more.”
