Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh dubbed his side’s 1-0 away victory at Chesterfield the best of the season.

The O’s extended their unbeaten run to eight matches the National League table thanks to a stunning strike from James Dayton in the 78th minute.

He praised his own side’s efforts but also praised Martin Allen’s side for putting them under constant pressure throughout the match.

“A huge win, it was a gutsy performance, totally different to Monday’s against Dover but the best win of the season for sure,” the 48-year-old told the club website.

“We was back against the wall, credit to Chesterfield they’ve been on a sticky run, and they come at us.

“They’re as good as we’ve played this season, they’re a good side, I don’t envisage the run they’re on they’ll stay on for much longer if they continue to play like that.

“We were up against it for long periods, but away from home they have good players in their team, the team were resolute, determined and really ground out that 1-0 victory.”

Edinburgh named an unchanged team for the fourth consecutive match and it paid off once again.

But his praise went to the defensive unit of goalkeeper Dean Brill and defenders Joe Widdowson, Josh Coulson, Marvin Ekpiteta and Myles Judd for their stand-out displays at the Proact Stadium.

“It was physical, but clean and fair, toe-to-toe, back the back four and keeper were immense today,” the former Tottenham Hotspur defender revealed.

“Myles Judd got through it, he had a tough time first-half as they tried to highlight him, but he stuck at it and got through so I’m really pleased for him as it was another good performance.

“I thought Marvin, Joe Widdowson, Josh and Dean Brill were immense today (Saturday).”

He then praised Dayton’s finish to seal the three points for his side.

“It was taken very good, as good a strike as you’ll see this weekend, but that’s what he’s got.

“He’s getting fitter and stronger all the time.”
