Orient midfielder discusses goal target for new campaign and his partnership with Lloyd James

Leyton Orient’s Sammy Moore is hoping he can score plenty of goals from midfield this season for Ian Hendon’s team to help their push for promotion.

The former AFC Wimbledon man failed to find the net last year for the Dons, but after taking up a fresh challenge with the O’s he is ready to hit the ground running in E10.

Moore has featured heavily in the starting team throughout the summer and is expected to make his competitive debut against Barnet on Saturday.

That League Two opener at Brisbane Road will give the 27-year-old his first chance to get on the scoresheet for his new club and he is hoping to do that regularly this year.

“I am going to hopefully be playing in one of the three midfield positions and I am looking to get five to eight goals this season,” said Moore.

“I don’t want to set my targets too high in case I don’t reach them, but anything over that will be a bonus.

“First and foremost I am in midfield to do a job and work hard without the ball as well.”

Moore is expected to line up alongside Lloyd James, who has looked good during pre-season.

The Welsh midfielder had to battle back from a broken leg last season and will be pleased to have come through the summer unscathed and Moore has praised the former Southampton ace.

He added: “I have known him for years and I played against him in the FA Youth Cup back in 2005 so I know he comes from a good background in football and he likes to get on the ball like Bradley Pritchard.

“Bradley is more of a worker, but it is nice to have ‘Lloydy’ in there because he has this calmness about him.

“He can move the ball quickly and find them little balls in behind the opposition midfield so our players face their back four.

“I think we have a real good relationship already so long may that continue this season.”

Moore and James appear to have formed a good partnership and they will both play an important role this year if Orient are to do well and achieve promotion.
